★ Spirit of the Oak, Ash, and Thorn Trees, Journeying, Protection★
"Of all the trees that grow so fair,
Old Engerland to adorn,
Greater are none beneath the Sun,
Than Oak and Ash and Thorn..." - Rudyard Kipling's book Puck of Pook's Hill
Hang above your altar to invite the energy of these tree triad into your path.
The idea of the Oak, Ash, and Thorn, is somewhat of a modern mystery.
It is said that these three trees together create an entranceway to the realm of the fae, or some feel, the Celtic Otherworld, realm of the Gods.
However the oldest documented mention of this is from Kipling in 1906, which ties the three to the realm of the faery.
What is known, is that the energy behind each of these three trees, and the Ogham associated with each, can be intertwined for incredible magical adventure.
Whether the idea of the Oak, Ash, and Thorn is a modern concept, or whether it is based on older (perhaps forgotten) folklore and wisdom, there is now belief and energy behind this tree triad, which can be harnessed by any individual to connect to the power of nature, as well as to the Celtic Otherworld.
The power of Oak - Duir is of 'deep roots' which can be harnessed for protection, grounding, and travelling. Root systems mirror the spiritual ecosystem and can provide a energetic template for spiritual meditation and journeying. Oak will also shield you from harm in your journeys.
The power of Ash - Nion is considered to be a tree of wisdom and strength in balance, and is also associated as the 'world tree' in the Nordic tradition. With the close intermingling of the Nordic people to the Celts, and the evolution of practice since, Ash can definitely be an aid travelling between worlds.
The power of Thorn - Huathe is a tree which is strongly associated with the fae in much of its folklore. If journeying to the fae and the Otherworld is the primary focus of the individual, the rich energy of Hawthorn complimented by Oak and Ash would make valuable spiritual allies.
