★King Arthur, Rule, Honour, Justice★
The Temple of King Arthur has been designed to celebrate perhaps the most famous British King from mythology; King Arthur Pendragon. Tales of Arthur are vast and he is legendary for rising to the occasion, proving himself to be a worthy king of Britain who united the land in peace and prosperity. He passed the tests laid out for him to prove his sovereignty; claiming the legendary sword, Excalibur, for his own. But he was also fallible, human, and made mistakes; usually from not listening to the wise counsel of the Druid Merlin.
The origins of King Arthur are debated by historians, as to whether he actually existed or whether he was in fact a figurine (perhaps even a God) from Celtic mythology and folklore. There are many similarities between King Arthurs stories and surviving Celtic myths such as "in the early Welsh poem "Preiddeu Annwfn", Arthur visits the Celtic Underworld, Annwfn, and his adventures closely parallel those of the cauldron-seeking god, Bran the Blessed. Even in Geoffrey of Monmouth's "History of the Kings of Britain," and Sir Thomas Malory's "Le Morte D'Arthur," upon being fatally wounded in battle, Arthur is carried to the mystical Avalon, apparently the Underworld home of the Celtic god, Afallach. Many legends around the country attest to Arthur's immortality. He is said to be sleeping in one of numerous caves waiting to return and lead his people.
The name Arthur itself appears to derive from the Celtic word Art, meaning "bear"..." - David Nash Ford
Regardless of origins, the mythology and impact of the King Arthur legend remains timeless, being retold for every generation and carrying with it stories of myth, magick, and adventure. King Arthur and his court never fails to capture the imagination and provides hope for the best qualities of humanity. Many would love to go back to a simpler time where codes of honour reigned, and this goal can be applied on a spiritual level.
