"Hail to You,
Great Mother of the Grain,
Of bountiful Harvest,
She who would give Her last drop of Lifeblood,
To sustain all Life,
She who walked once hand in hand with Death
And feared Him not..." ~ Tailtiu Invocation from Celtic Calling Lughnasadh
Ancient grain mother spirit powder was born last year out of the Celtic Calling Lughnasadh course for the ancient Celtic Goddess of grain - Tailtiu. This year we add a delicious incense with a scent matrix to honour the Goddess of Grain in all Her forms (including Tailtiu).
Discovering this Goddess & connecting to Her wisdom meant Lughnasadh went from my least favourite sabbat to one I adore.
I couldn’t believe the impact the course had on ME as I researched it and created it, channeled the sacred words & created ritual for this forgotten Goddess, and now creating items for Her and Lughnasadh is an absolute pleasure.
Ancient grain mother connects us to all grain mothers (not just Tailtiu) in a way that helps us discover something we’ve lost - connection to the land, and through it, our spiritual selves.
“Blood in the land” is always what I hear with Lughnasadh & each year my understanding as to why deepens.
Yes, our ancestors fed blood into the land - a sacrifice of life force in return for life sustaining crops.
And the ancient grain goddess of Irish mythology gave her life for the same reason - allowing her life force to ebb into the land so that humankind might continue to exist.
The sacred sharing of life force is an important part of Witchcraft to this witch - the energy exchange that happens every day, every time we eat, harvest, are born, and die - all spirits partake in the great cycle of energy that interlinks us all.
The Ancient Grain Mother Goddess feels sorely absent in modern times being relegated to a negative role in myth (Demeter) or her funeral games now associated almost exclusively with her adopted son (Tailtiu.)
Ancient Grain Mother is designed to reconnect us with the divine feminine of fertility and abundance. To honour the times of good harvests and shared commonalities over good food.
The incense can be gifted to the ancestors to thank them for all their hard work as well as their sacrifices.
★ Apple is a traditional Witch fruit with a pentagram at the centre if you slice into it; the energy behind it is varied, with magical properties of Love magick, Beauty, Wisdom and Knowledge, as well as divination and ancestral work.
★ Pomegranate magical properties - Pomegranate is ruled by Mercury who facilitated travel between the realms of the Living and the Dead, and carried messages. Associated with Persephone it adds the magick of the "Walker between Worlds," (as I see Her,) and for energies of Death and Rebirth. It is also associated with Fertility.
★ Labdanum in Witchcraft - Also called the Black Sun, associated with Fire, and can assist with spells of Prophecy, Purification, Protective and Defense rituals, as well as insight into ones self.
★ Honey is infused with the energy of eternity; that which is limitless and will endure. I adore it for working with Goddess & God energy. It is also used to for attraction and "sweetening" spells, to both attract what you desire, and to improve a situation.
★ Fig in Witchcraft - used for fertility and creativity, Fig is all about going back to the source and its ability to birth knowledge and creation.
