The Winter Hare ★ The Sacred Dark ★ Winter Wilderness ★ Spell Candle combines Hare spirit energy with the Sacred dark magic, adding a shapeshifting element to the magick!

This beautiful moonlit hare shimmers in the darkening light with an otherworldly radiance, and is surrounded by Yarrow and other plant allies to help you heal through transformation in the dark.

Connect to your inner wild witch, uses in shapeshifting rituals and journeys through the hedge... or as a beautiful decoration if you cannot bear to burn it (I don't think I could with this one!)

“Cesaer recorded that rabbits and hares were taboo foods to the Celtic tribes.
In Ireland, it was said that eating a hare was like eating one’s own grandmother -- perhaps due to the sacred connection between hares and various goddesses, warrior queens, and female faeries, or else due to the belief that old "wise women" could shape-shift into hares by moonlight.

The Celts used rabbits and hares for divination and other shamanic practices by studying the patterns of their tracks, the rituals of their mating dances, and mystic signs within their entrails. It was believed that rabbits burrowed underground in order to better commune with the spirit world, and that they could carry messages from the living to the dead and from humankind to the faeries.” - Terri Windling

Connection with the Sacred Dark

Darkness is nearly always found in a container.

Whilst it is the absence of light, it is usually that a container forms a barrier to that light, blocking it for a time.

In that time, our bodies seek to rejoin that darkness by creating it within ourselves - our body closes down, eyes shutting, body rhythms slowing - and create a sacred container in which we rest.

In which we dream.

Only in the sacred dark do we dive into the dark depths of our subconscious, where limitless potential & possibilities await.

Each night we experience a mini death, and each morning, a rebirth.

- Joey Morris, Hedge Witch Magazine November 2025

As Winter sets in, we are confronted with the dark, something we have a bone deep suspicion of and can even swim with our very fears if we're not careful.
But the Witches know that this fear has been conditioned, for the darkness is natural and calming, a sanctuary space to hear the voices of the Gods and the spirits, it is sacred.

The darkness of the inner cauldron, the cave of hibernation, the deep rooted soil spaces beneath the earth; they are places of rest and enchantment, where we recover from the world, where we are in contact with our potential and our power - a space of dreaming.

This beautiful scent matrix is designed to connect your into this energy, helping you to honour the Sacred Dark in your spells and rituals; whether it be to rediscover your true essence of self, help yourself let go of old toxic wounded cycles that keep you small, or to meditate inward and confront your personal shadows and allow your magical self to arise.

The scent matrix in particular is evocative, evoking a wild witch trance in your bones, inviting you to dance in the liminal dark spaces and embody your power.

★ Birch tar in Witchcraft - Birch has always been at the entrances to the Otherworld for me; it takes me on liminal journeys. It has traditionally been used for new beginnings, cleansing spaces of negativity be it energies or spirits, birch tar specifically has a history of being used as an adhesive - making it ideal in spells to bind things together.
